Take a Tour of Afuri Ramen, Now Open in Inner Southeast

The big-time Japanese restaurant is also just plain big

Afuri is h-o-t. One of Tokyo's most lauded ramen franchises, Afuri opened its first location outside of Japan last month, on the corner of SE 7th and Yamhill, next door to The Commons Brewery in Southeast. It serves its renowned ramen, as well as sushi, izakaya plates, and grilled fish and meats from its Irori grill — the only one in the United States, Afuri U.S. CEO Taichi Ishizuki tells Eater. The large bar menu ranges to saké flights to signature cocktails designed by local bar-star Ryan Magarian (Hamlet).

Afuri is also m-a-s-s-i-v-e. Around 90 people can sit in the restaurant at a time, and you can choose from three separate dining areas: the bar, located immediately to the right upon entering; the sushi counter, with plentiful seating, running the length of the open kitchen; and at the tables in the dining room, which include two tops, four tops, and a long communal table. Behold Afuri Ramen in the photo gallery above.
