One of the pioneers of vegan cooking in Portland, Portobello Vegan Trattoria will serve its last plate of spaghetti and beetballs on December 31, PoMo reports. Dinae Horne and Aaron Adams (Farm Spirit) co-founded Portobello Vegan Trattoria on SE Division in December 2008, and Adams sold his share in 2014.
Horne isn’t leaving the restaurant game altogether: After a break, she plans to open a new restaurant, currently with the working name, Stone Soup. It will focus on delivering food at a good price to make plant-based eating more accessible to more people.
Portland Monthly brings some good news, too: Taking over Portobello Vegan Trattoria’s lease is a new concept, Heart Bar, by Sanjay Chandrasekaran, Sean Sigmon, and Dan Belthius. Chandrasekaran runs the Indian vegan micro-restaurant, the Sudra, and Sigmon was the opening chef at Harvest in the Bindary.
According to PoMo, Heart Bar will be a counter-service spot with a full bar serving burgers, bowls, and more. It could open as early as February 2017.
