Known for its happy hour, cocktails, and traditional Italian dishes by chef-owner Marco Frattaroli, Basta Trattoria & Bar has announced it will close at the end of the year, at 410 NW 21st St. Opened in 1992, Basta will be missed by many, and comments continue to build on chef Frattaroli’s farewell Facebook post.

"I am so sad! We just discovered your restaurant," writes one. "We have spent 18 years celebrating many milestones and memories,” says another, and another diner simply writes, "For f&#$’s sake 2016." Yes, this year’s spate of restaurant closings seems like it’ll never end.

Fortunately for fans, Basta’s pizzas and pastas won’t disappear until the last day of 2016, so there’s still time for a final lasagna Toscana. Frattaroli’s full goodbye reads:

Today, I let my staff know that Basta will be closing at the end of the year. This was a very hard decision, probably one of the most difficult in my experience. I feel Basta has run its course, and now it is time to exit gracefully. I would like to thank my patrons, with whom I have grown older and hopefully wiser, and especially my staff, who made it all possible.

A presto, Marco

When 2017 rolls around, Frattaroli’s pizzas, pastas, salads, and more will still be available at Cibo, on SE Division. His second restaurant has been going strong since opening in 2012.
