According to its Facebook page, Tin Man Coffee Co. opens today at 308 SW 1st Ave., and the new cafe comes from Adam Schley and Matthew Peter, two Portland natives and self-described "coffee geeks." Tin Man says it won't have "esoteric" rules for how coffee should be enjoyed, and it aims to "bring a little friendly humility to the coffee business." The coffee company has already begun construction on a second location—this one on SE Hawthorne beside Por Que No.
Tin Man makes espressos, lattes, and cappuccinos using coffees sourced from around globe, and right now, it features coffees from local Heart Roasters and Nossa Familia Coffee, as well as Sightglass Coffee out of San Francisco. You'll also find pastries from Kim Boyce's Bakeshop, Bowery bagels, Tanglewood Chai, and syrups using local Ranger Chocolate.
Schley and Peter grew up together, and Peter brings experience managing coffee roasting and wholesale at Kaladi Brothers Coffee Company, an Alaska-based company, as well as serving as an account manager at Nossa Familia Coffee.
Tin Man's downtown location will be open Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., and it will be closed weekends. Look for an update on the Hawthorne location on Eater Portland in early April.
