One of the trailblazers of North Portland's Mississippi Avenue food scene, Equinox Restaurant and Bar, located at 830 N Shaver, is closing its doors. Known for its well-price brunch, Equinox opened just under 13 years ago, and co-owners Tara George and Michele Stultz announced the news by email. The restaurant's last day will be Sunday, March 27, and until then, it will continue serving dinner Wednesday through Sunday, and brunch Friday through Sunday.
Equinox is located just off Mississippi Avenue, and in a years-old review on portlandfoodanddrink.com, Food Dude wrote, "Equinox is one of those places you have to take as a whole, and not judge solely on the food—at least during the summer time. The reason is the patio: big and open; lots of tables, each with its own colorful umbrella; plenty of gas heaters; and warm flagstones under your feet to reflect the heat of the day as the light wanes. It's darn near a perfect place to relax, and in my opinion, one of the best outdoor dining spaces in Portland."
The following is the email Equinox Restaurant and Bar sent out today, Wednesday, March 9:
Dear loyal patrons,
Equinox Restaurant and Bar will be closing its doors on Sunday, March 27th, 2016. Inside of nearly 13 years, and having been one of the first full service restaurants in the North Mississippi Historic District, we have been very fortunate to have made so many great memories. We have celebrated numerous weddings, engagements, birthdays, holidays, and everyday good times with family and friends, old and new.
As the Spring Equinox arrives this month, we find it fitting to offer our final service during that week. We hope you will come in and say goodbye to Equinox sometime before we close.
All of us at Equinox Restaurant would like to extend our biggest thanks to everyone for so many years of patronage.
We look forward to what the future will bring.
Sincerely,
Tara George
