DOWNTOWN—Are you a home or amateur chef who wants to compete on MasterChef Season 8? This is your chance: MasterChef will hold an open casting at Portland's Embassy Suites on April 23. It encourages anyone interested to RSVP here. [EaterWire]

SOUTHEAST—Thanks to the eagle eyes of Nick Zukin, owner of Mi Mero Mole, we report the Salt & Pepper Mexican and Peruvian restaurant is now open inside of the Tienda el Campesino marketplace, located at 6611 SE Powell Blvd. Salt & Pepper started out as a food cart a few years ago, and it offers a sizable menu of traditional Peruvian dishes, like Arroz Con Pollo, and Mexican dishes, as well as quick-service items like tacos and burritos. SOUTHEAST—Local roaster Water Avenue Coffee announces it's now serving a new menu of light breakfast and lunch dishes (see full menu below), at its cafe at 1028 SE Water Ave. Chef Ryan Kennedy has developed a number of Australia-inspired toasts, for instance, including an Avocado Smash toast, which is particularly ubiquitous in Melbourne:
