You'll soon get to taste the softer side of Salt & Straw, at its new Wiz Bang Bar inside of the Pine Street Market food hall. The market technically opens downtown May 1, but several businesses are already operating inside, and Wiz Bang Bar is poised to release some seriously nutto signature ice creams beginning at 10 a.m. tomorrow (the potential lines for Wiz Bang Bar's takeout window have pretty much already doomed all foot traffic in the surrounding area). Without further ado, here are some of the weirdest ice cream options at the new Wiz Bang Bar
Rhubarb Sour Straws Sundae
Wiz Bang's house-made rhubarb sour straws made with fresh rhubarb must be what Sour Patch Kids dream of, and this sundae also comes with butter mochi, rosé lemon curd, and Salted Sweet Cream soft serve.
Meat Soft Serve Ice Cream with Fruit Dip
C'mon— You know ice cream and meat are old friends at Salt & Straw. Now you can get smoked Oregon ham soft serve in a dip shell of Oregon black raspberry.
Ice Cream Sandwiches Involving Homemade Marshmallow Fluff
Don't drop your snow cone, but Wiz Bang Bar's ice cream sandwiches feature Sea Salt with Caramel Ribbons ice cream between chocolate cookies made with homemade marshmallow fluff.
Black Truffle White Chocolate Shell
Ice cream really draws out the flavor of Oregon black truffles, the magical funghi highly prized for its culinary value, and you can add a truffle-y shell to any cone of soft serve—in theory, turning it into a legendary aphrodisiac.
The Ritz Pie Sundae
This sundae comes atop a "pie" made of apples and Ritz crackers—obviously.
You can add any soft serve flavor to any of the available beers at Wiz Bang. Oregon Ham soft serve with Breakside Brewery's Passionfruit Sour Ale, anyone?
Peanut Butter & Jelly with PB Cereal & Vanilla Custard
This sundae is based on the award-winning peanut butter and jelly and ice cream sandwich from Feast 2015. Find a toasted bun, Oregon marionberry jam, and vanilla custard topped with homemade peanut butter cereal.
Concrete with Hazelnut Butter Crunch Bars
Wiz Bang serves the Salt & Straw version of the Dairy Queen Blizzard (or, more simply, a concrete, for anyone from the East Coast). With fillings including homemade "Oreo" cookies, the combos aren't so strange, but the Concrete with Hazelnut Butter Crunch Bars features chunks of florentine cookies made with Rice Krispies, plus candied hazelnut butter and Woodblock chocolate.
The dessert version of the taco, it touts a handmade waffle cone shell and cinnamon and ancho chili ice cream. It's then dipped in Woodblock Chocolate and topped with Bitterman's Sel Gris salt.
Pinot Noir with Oregon Ham Soft Serve, Rhubarb Sour Straws, Sweet Brûléed Grit Cake, and Oregon Black Truffle Shell
We don't know whether this is a drink, a sundae, or a cone, because we made it up. But who knows—with the free-flowing style of Salt & Straw, Wiz Bang Bar might even make it for you.
Beginning April 16, Wiz Bang Bar is open daily, from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m., at 126 SW 2nd Ave.
