Hat Yai, the new restaurant from celebrated chef Earl Ninsom (Langbaan, PaaDee) and bartender Alan Akwai (St. Jack), will soft open on NE Killingsworth, the O reports:

The 36-seat, counter-service space [...] will open sometime this weekend in a Northeast Portland space tucked between Handsome Pizza and Prospect Bottle Shop.

Beginning the weekend of May 20, you will finally be able to taste its fried chicken, modeled on fried chicken from the Thai city of Hat Yai, along with a selection of other dishes from the city, like noodle and rice salads and curries and stir fries full of aromatic herbs. Akwai will whip up cocktails for pairing.

Ninsom operates the very popular Langbaan, a hidden restaurant inside of his other popular Thai eatery, PaaDee, which also focuses on regional Thai food. Since it's been a hot ticket since opening, you may not have been able to get a seat at Langbaan, but Hat Yai won't be nearly as hard to access.

The O reports Hat Yai will keep regular hours (11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily) and offer counter service. It's amazing Ninsom and Akwai fit 36 seats into the narrow space, and you'll find a mix of table and counter seating.
