"I am 38 years old, and I have spent a good part of my life being an entitled prick," begins Elias Cairo's TEDx talk, recently released on Youtube by TEDx Portland. Most people think of Cairo as the man behind Portland's iconic salami producer, Olympia Provisions, but in the TEDx video above, he goes into uncharted territory: the land of entitlement, snowboarding, and over-cooked eggs.
Cairo's 16-minute talk takes you inside of his home life in Utah, where he grew up eating sausages made fresh by his dad, but it also takes you inside of his head. There, Cairo says he has a team of imaginary board members that helps him maintain humility and, more or less, keeps him from acting entitled, no matter the excuse.
The talk mentions a particularly entitled Olympia Provisions diner, too—one who apparently had the gall to demand a sold-out menu item from a waiter, citing an allegedly massive Yelp presence.
The sold-out 2016 TEDx Portland took place April 9.
