Often with clotheslines strung and brilliant-white sheets and clothing hung, Nonna's back patio can be a scene out of Italy, and beginning tomorrow, June 14, it's adding a raw bar to the mix. Nonna tells Eater you can expect raw local oysters and other raw dishes that "tell the stories of Oregon," like Oregon bay shrimp ceviche and sea urchin topped with a slice of house-made lardo and cocoa nibs (see full menu below).
"Sourcing is key, when you're serving humble, simple food," says Val Berger, general manager of Nonna, along with its sister restaurants DOC and Yakuza. Swing by tomorrow for the launch for a complimentary oyster and glass of bubbles, from 4 to 9 p.m., at 5513 NE 30th Ave. The full menu of house-made charcuterie, pastas, vegetable dishes, and meat and seafood entrees will also be available.
As the summer heats up, Nonna is continuing its kids' happy hour, with things like $2 pasta and meatballs, Tuesday through Sunday, beginning at 4 p.m. Also, every Wednesday comes with live music, and Berger tells Eater Brent Follis, drummer for local music sensation Pink Martini, is curating the music program. See upcoming acts on Nonna's Facebook page.
And without further ado, see what'll be passing over the new raw bar this summer with the opening day menu:
