A trusty classic in the Portland barbecue scene, Clay's Smokehouse has turned out solid smoked chicken, sausages, and ribs and Southern staples like blackened catfish for years, but that's all up in the air now. An employee at Clay's Smokehouse confirms the restaurant has ceased lunch and dinner service, but is still doing take out and catering. The restaurant "hopes" to relocate to Milwaukie late summer, according to the employee.

The potential new home for Clay's Smokehouse is 6305 SE King Road in Milwaukie, a quiet area about halfway between downtown Milwaukie and SE 82nd Avenue. For now, you can order carryout through the end of July by calling 503-235-4755 or emailing clayssmokehousegrill@gmail.com.

Michael and Cathryn Slyman own Clay's Smokehouse Grill, and they named it after their son, Clay. Michael oversees the smoker, and though he has experience cooking in South Carolina, he says he developed his barbecue skills working at his uncle's rib restaurant in Oklahoma.
