SOUTHEAST—Because it was National Hamburger Day, National Geographic released The Best Burgers in America: A Definitive Guide—using data from Yelp. Aiming to offer a "machine's" perspective on the discussion of American's best burgers, the article featured Yelp's top 10 burger spots, and PDX Sliders, the food cart serving creative and tasty sliders on little brioche buns, came in at #4. What do you say—did Nat Geo (and The Machine) get it right? [National Geographic]
SOUTHEAST—The Umai ramen food cart, opened two years ago by bluegrass musicians Forest Carter and Austin Moore, will shutter June 18. The O's Michael Russell ranked its ramen the best Portland-style ramen in the city and third-best ramen overall, just four months ago. Umai's parting Facebook post partially reads, "Let us be sure to turn this sad news into happy news: Now you have no choice but to eat Umai very soon." [Oregonian]
DOWNTOWN/PSU—The Olé Latte coffee cart has opened up a second bagel-focused cart right next to the original in the PSU parking lot at SW Hall and 5th Avenue. Olé Latte Bagels will serve Bowery Bagels with cream cheese and bagel sandwiches (see a recent menu below). A supporter of the Suspended Coffee movement, Olé lets you pay it forward: Purchase an extra coffee or bagel and the cart will give it to someone who needs it.
