A month after bringing her Ashland sandwiches to Portland, Pastrami Zombie owner Melissa McMillan tells Eater that she's moving her cart from its place at the small pod across the street from Providence Park to Northeast 42nd Avenue and Killingsworth.
McMillan, who runs Ashland's popular Sammich shop says she thinks the neighborhood will make a better fit for her cart. Her plan all along was to anchor her cart in a neighborhood full of potential regulars as opposed to a small corner where passersby were just that—passersby on their way to someplace else.
"I have spent the last year in that neighborhood on and off," McMillan told us. "I'm proud to be neighbors with NEPO 42 and Pollo Norte. I really believe in their style and the community in that neighborhood."
McMillan expects to be slinging up burgers, market salads and her famed pastrami Reubens—the meat of which takes a full seven days to prepare—in the Concordia neighborhood by Monday, July 18.
