What happens when three local skateboarders team up with former Nodoguro cook Colin Yoshimoto? Poke, the delicate and healthy Hawaiian raw fish salad, that's what. PoMo reports the new Poke Mon restaurant is now open at 1485 SE Hawthorne Blvd., and it's the city's "first stand-alone poke restaurant," which means the national poke trend finally—and we do meant about-freaking-time finally—has a significant presence in Portland.
Near Castagna and the newly opened Neat whiskey bar, Poke Mon comes from Yoshimoto, Brent Atchley, Mike Chin, and Nicholas Hyde. Yoshimoto hails form Hawaii and has worked in Portland sushi hotspots Nodoguro and Mirakutei, as well as Nong's Khao Man Gai. Atchley, Chin, and Hyde are local skateboarders, with Atchley, when he isn't appearing on Eater, appearing in places like Thrasher.
Look for lots of food details and photos of the interior here on Eater tomorrow. For now, PoMo reports Poke Mon offers six unique poke bowls, with vegetarian and vegan options. Poke Mon is currently open Tuesday through Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and by the end of the month, the restaurant intends to expand hours to 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
