This Weekend, Support Black Restaurant Days Returns to Portland

This weekend (August 27 and 28) marks the second annual Support Black Restaurant Days event in Portland to raise awareness for black-owned businesses in the area. Last year, organizer Bertha Pearl, owner of Size Queen Clothing, told Eater she wanted to bring Support Black Restaurant Days to Portland after reading about the event in the SF Chronicle. "When a friend shared the article, I thought, let's do this in Portland. I figured if anyone else was doing it, we could collaborate. Especially with everything happening with Black Lives Matter right now, I'd love to see something positive happen. Supporting black businesses here is a good way to do it."

According to Facebook engagement alone, the momentum seems to be growing. Last year at this time, 4,300 people planned on going out to eat, and this year, already 6,700 have clicked "I'm going."
