The taproom edition of the popular Hood River brewery Double Mountain is open at 4336 SE Woodstock as of 11 a.m. today, August 6, and along with craft beers and creative pizzas, it has an entire roadside billboard inside. It's a vintage ad for Blitz-Weinhard beer featuring a Arnold Schwarzenegger look-alike waterskiing.
"When we ordered it online, we thought it'd be a poster," says Double Mountain's Anneke Ayers. But then it arrived, and it was a legit billboard. Considering Hood River is a destination for kitesurfing, the billboard brings a little more of the Columbia River Gorger to the Woodstock neighborhood.
Double Mountain Taproom seats 125 indoors and 30-40 more on picnic tables outdoors. Reclaimed wood, a long bar, and booth and table seating comprise the rustic interior and the bar has 34 taps, all pouring Double Mountain creations (more on this in the next article). The impressive wooden bar back was designed and features carvings by one of Double Mountain's own investors.
Check out the vinyl soundtrack ranging from Curtis Mayfield to the Meat Puppets beginning today, when the family friendly taproom is open from 11 a.m. to midnight. Moving forward, it'll serve lunch and dinner daily. The hours are Sunday through Thursday, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, from 11 a.m. to midnight.
