Edgy and raucous, The Dandy Warhols emerged from the Portland music scene in 1994, and even then, frontman Courtney Taylor-Taylor saw its formation as the result of a group of friends who "needed music to drink by." Perhaps it's no surprise then that The Dandy Warhols are now opening a bar. As WWeek first reported, it'll open inside of the band's infamous Slabtown space, the Odditorium, and it could be a wine bar, according to an undisclosed WWeek source, allegedly with a close relationship with Taylor-Taylor.
The Dandy Warhols are well-documented wine lovers. Just in May, PoMo reported a raucous scene involving wine inside of the Odditorium. "We had a little rager with Wolfmother last night," Taylor-Taylor told PoMo at the time. "It was a nice dinner with lots of wine. It's what I love to do."
The new bar will be named Old Portland and open in Slabtown, but no opening date and few details have been confirmed. It will be the first time the Odditorium will be open to the public on a regular basis. The Dandy Warhols have used the 10,000-square-foot space as everything from a recording studio to a party venue, and WWeek describes the interior "as falling somewhere between antique overstock warehouse and burlesque hall." You may one day be able to describe the interior, too, hopefully with wine in-hand.
