Also home to the happening Doug Fir Lounge bar and music venue, Jupiter Hotel is undergoing an expansion, and it’ll include a to-be-named restaurant, a lounge and cafe called The Lobby Bar, and a promising new nightlife venue, Hey Love. Taking over the adjacent block, Jupiter Next plans to open on April 1, 2018. Restaurant details are still under wraps, but the bars are shaping up.
Hey Love comes from experienced Portland bartenders Emily Mistell and Sophie Thomson and the co-owners of the ever-popular SE Grand lounge Dig A Pony, Nicholas Musso and Aaron Hall. Thomson tells Eater Hey Love will be 1500 square feet and seat 50. The Lobby Bar, located adjacent to Hey Love, will also be 1500 square feet, but seat 40. The restaurant will furnish food for both.
The Lobby Bar will focus on function, serving pastries, coffees, and low-alcohol cocktails for those who don’t enjoy martini mornings. Hey Love will turn up the bass starting at 3 p.m., with a jungle-y decor, cocktails by the veteran bar staff, and a TBD food menu. It’ll be exciting to see how the space shapes up, as Bridgid Blackburn, the co-owner the local world-importer, Cargo, will help with design.
Will Hey Love, located just a block away at 920 East Burnside, cut into the Doug Fir Lounge’s business? It doesn’t seem so. The Doug Fir has a lumberjack theme and a basement featuring incredibly cool bands. Hey Love will offer a lush space, with a thoughtful but pre-recorded soundtrack.
