Welcome to day three of the eighth annual Eater Awards, honoring the most talented restaurant and bar industry gurus in cities across the world. Here’s how the Eater Awards work: All 24 Eater cities and the national site will grant prizes in multiple categories, including but not limited to Restaurant of the Year, Chef of the Year, and Design of the Year.
In each category, there will be an editor’s choice winner and a readers’ choice winner — all to be announced on December 5, 2017. The readers’ choice winners get unlimited bragging rights as Eater fan favorites. The editor’s choice winners will each receive an illustrious tomato can trophy, as is the tradition around here.
And that’s not all. Over the course of the coming year, stay tuned for features highlighting what makes each of the editor’s choice winners so great.
Earlier this week, readers voted on the Restaurant of the Year and Chef of the Year. Today, Design of the Year is up: Which new Portland restaurant is the most beautiful?
Eater Portland’s 2017 nominees in the Design of the Year category feature vibrant murals, deep-blue color schemes, a heaven-and-hell dichotomy inspired by Elvis, a zen-like Japanese decor by the same world-renowned architect who revamped the Portland Japanese Garden (Kengo Kuma), and sleek lines to produce an equally hip, minimalist, and dynamic space.
One note on nominee eligibility: The Awards focus on restaurants opened in the past year or that had recently turned on the lights when the 2016 Eater Awards were compiled (October 2016).
