The O’s Michael Russell bears sad news today: John Gorham, the chef and restaurateur behind Toro Bravo, Tasty N Sons, Mediterranean Exploration Company, and more, plans to step away from his restaurant group while recovering from brain surgery, scheduled to take place in late-January. The move is expected to be temporary.
Gorham told the O his doctors project a six-week recovery period, spurred by what they believe is “a mild glioma, or small tumor.” He created a board to oversee the day-to-day operations of Toro Bravo Inc. during the interim. The board will also be there should complications arise.
The Toro Bravo Inc. board is 10 people strong, featuring John Gorham’s wife and business partner, Renee Gorham; business partner Ron Avni; and several seasoned employees.
For those who want to show support, say hello, and eat dim sum through a Spanish lens, Gorham is doing one big dinner before the surgery: The Dim Sum Tapas dinner featuring Spanish chef Juanjo Canals.
