Located at 1465 NE Prescott St., the Muscadine restaurant will close after a strong three-year run on December 31, the O reports. Chef-owner Laura Rhoman says she’s done with cooking and wants to go out on a high note. With Muscadine still at the top of its game — and in 2015, Esquire named it one of the Best New Restaurants in America — she is doing just that.
Rhoman is an eighth-generation Mississippi native and offers a thoroughly Southern menu for breakfast and lunch. The 40-seat Muscadine replaced the Tiga bar in the complex now home to Extracto Coffee, Pok Pok Noi, and Grain & Gristle, in 2014.
Muscadine is the first major end-of-the-year Portland restaurant closing. Since it’s already halfway through the month, perhaps this year’s final closings won’t be as numerous as anticipated?
