Now in its 27th year, the James Beard Foundation Awards has announced its list of 2017 restaurant and chef semifinalists in 21 categories. It’s been two years since Oregon brought home the Best Chef Northwest award, and among the new nominees in that category this year are Ha (Christina) Luu of Ha VL and Katy Millard of Coquine. Gabriel Rucker of Le Pigeon is again the only Oregon chef nominated for the Outstanding Chef category.
In the Best New Restaurant category, Han Oak holds the distinction of being the only Oregon nominee, while two Seattle restaurants received nominations, Upper Bar Ferdinand and No Anchor. And Mae’s Maya Lovelace is the sole Portland chef in the running for Rising Star Chef of the Year.
