You Can Now Eat Phorritos Every Monday (For A While)

Tapalaya institutes its viral pop-up

With a full-blown phorrito-splosion on its hands, Tapalaya will continue its phorrito pop-up, the restaurant tells Eater. Originally, the pop-up had been scheduled for two nights only, but Tapalaya tells Eater the waitlist had to close early both nights, meaning not everyone got inside. Those experiencing hunger pangs for chef Anh Luu’s pho-and-burrito mashup can still get it every Monday, from 4 to 9:30 p.m., at 28 NE 28th Ave. But all good things must come to an end, and the pop-up will conclude the last Monday in March.

Tapalaya’s phorrito went Portland viral in early February, after Eater PDX released a video revealing the secrets of the phorrito. Fox News picked up the video; the Merc put the dish on its “Eat This” list; Luu appeared on KGW; and KATU and WWeek made their own phorrito films; etc.

Moving forward, the pop-up menu will focus on original and vegetarian versions of the dish, with a handful of sides, drinks, and dessert. Sides include things like chargrilled pork sausage skewers with tamarind gastrique. The phorritos will replace the restaurant’s regular dinner menu those Mondays.
