Seattle-sensation Sunset Fried Chicken expanded to Portland in November 2016, and according to PoMo, it will soon pack its things and return to the Emerald City: The fried-chicken sandwich spot will close at the end of April.
Despite its fried chicken sandwiches being considered some of Seattle’s best, Sunset Fried Chicken faced stiff competition in Portland from the get-go, with a number of other restaurants specializing in that very plate opening in 2016—including Chick-Fil-A. Additionally, opinions on Sunset Fried Chicken’s version were divided. And Sunset won’t be the only one of those fried-chicken spots to turn off the fryers: ChkChk also closed its doors.
Sunset Fried Chicken operated inside of Rachel’s Ginger Beer, at 3646 SE Hawthorne Blvd. According to PoMo, Rachel’s Ginger Beer owner Rachel Marshall “is currently in talks with local chefs for a Portland-born replacement.” Marshall has consistently worked with Sunset Fried Chicken’s Monica Dimas, so all bets are off as to who will take over the Hawthorne kitchen.
