The iconic hidden restaurant Roe has left the building. Roe is known for many-coursed, seafood-focused tasting menus by chef-owner Trent Pierce—a James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef Northwest in 2014, 2015, and 2016. In August 2016, Pierce announced he would relocate the restaurant to an undisclosed venue on Portland’s Westside, and it looks as though that day is getting very close.
But first, Roe is on a “West Coast” tour, and the first stop was Bend, OR. In comments on Instagram, the restaurant says “San Francisco and Oakland” are in the works, too.
Since opening Roe in 2012, Pierce has mingled French and Japanese cooking techniques with aplomb in a 365-square-foot space without a sign at 3113 SE Division St., so the new venue will bring welcomed room (it may also bring open-flame cooking, something the former ventilation-less venue impeded). Last summer, Pierce said the new restaurant will have a chef's counter and a "speakeasy" vibe.
