The team behind Portland’s best steakhouse will turn on the burners at its new smoked and grilled chicken spot, Big’s Chicken, on April 21, according to the O. Ben Dyer, Jason Owens, David Kreifels, and Ben Bettinger co-own Laurelhurst Market, Ate-Oh-Ate, and Reverend’s BBQ, and they tested out their Nashville hot chicken- and Alabama white sauce-inspired menu as a pop-up last summer.
Big’s Chicken takes over the old Big Ass Sandwiches venue at 5663 NE Glisan St., and it will open its doors at 11 a.m. this Friday. Moving forward, Big’s Chicken will operate daily, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The menu centers on quarter, half, and whole smoked chicken, and the team reports everything will be prepared in-house, from its pickles to its JoJos. Other dishes included fried cauliflower with smoked tomato aioli and that chicken-thigh-and-white-sauce sandwich.
