Last week, Big’s Chicken officially opened for business at 5663 NE Glisan St.
The new restaurant comes courtesy of Ben Dyer, Jason Owens, David Kreifels, and Ben Bettinger, the fellows who brought Portland Laurelhurst Market, Ate-Oh-Ate, and Reverend’s BBQ.
As you can see by the photos, Big’s looks lived in, with décor that showcases beat-up wooden walls, found objects, old street signs, and a whole wall covered in old, rusty Oregon license plates.
Big’s serves whole- and half-birds, chicken sandwiches, chicken wings, jo jos, veggie bowls, dirty rice, fried cauliflower, fried green beans, and sweet and tangy Souther-style coleslaw. But its secret weapon just might be its “white gold,” an Alabama-style white gravy that you can pour over pretty much anything on the menu.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week.
