After 14 years, Russell St. Barbecue is ready to bring its smokers to a new neighborhood: Belmont. The popular barbecue restaurant will soon serve its mason-jar banana splits at 4246 SE Belmont St., in the venue formerly home to Hokusei and Fukami Sushiya, the O reports. Russell St. Barbecue 2.0 currently expects to open on May 24.
At the original location (across the street from Toro Bravo), owner Sharon Santucci serves classic Southern plates like pimento cheese and hushpuppies, plus a cornucopia of smoked meats in a variety of styles: pulled pork, beef brisket, half chickens, baby back pork ribs, spare ribs, and beef ribs. Those meats, cooked low and slow, are good news for the Belmont neighborhood, which is short on barbecue options.
Russell St. Barbecue’s Facebook page reveals a color scheme of dark red, black, and yellow with repurposed barn roofing and other rustic materials, keeping in stride with the original location’s funky Southern charm. No word yet on its hours, but the NE Russell Street location is open daily for lunch and dinner.
