At Virtuous Pie Portland, the decor, developed with assistance from Portland-based Bright Design Lab, is open and breezy, with a roll-up wall to let in the summer air and large communal tables to invite community. Look for nods to Oregon in the form of Oregon black marble tabletops and reclaimed Oregon oak. The gleaming Modbar coffee system serves things like coffee tonics and lattes made with Heart Roasters coffee and nut-based milk.
Virtuous Pie seats 38 and is 1700 square feet, and that includes a mezzanine in which to hide away from it all among couches, lounge chairs, leafy plants, and artworks. Night owls should take note: This lounge area could be a nice late-night refuge, as Virtuous Pie will stay open till midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.
Virtuous Pie opens this Saturday at 1126 SE Division, and it is on a mission to prove that vegan pizza and ice cream can actually be flavorful and satisfying, with big plans to expand. “We want to make an impact, so we need to scale up,” says Jim Vesal, who co-owns the shop with Lia Loukas. The planted-based pizzeria and ice cream shop was founded in 2015 in Vancouver, B.C.
