After vacating its long-time home on Southeast Division in summer 2016, old-school barbecue spot Clay’s Smokehouse Grill confirms it will return to the vibrant dining neighborhood — and what you know: It’ll reopen just a block from its original location. Clay’s Smokehouse has taken over the lease at 2865 SE Division St., formerly home to the short-lived Loon Bar.

“We will be opening late fall, in September or October,” owner Mike Slyman tells Eater. “We will be serving the same menu, with some new additions, such as house-made pickles, steak fries, and a full bar.” Setting up that bar program is Mike Bender of the Eastburn bar.

When Clay’s closed last year, an employee said it “hoped” to reopen. The latest news confirms that this is one Portland restaurant closure with a happy ending. Slyman says Clay’s Smokehouse will retain its family-friendly vibe for the most part, but when it reopens this fall, it’ll add late-night hours, as well as a covered patio.
