Owner Ben Bui tells Eater a fire broke out at Fish Sauce last night, and the restaurant, known for its homestyle Vietnamese dishes, is currently closed at 407 NW 17th Ave. in the Alphabet District.
“Fish Sauce is closed due to a fire by the trash area,” writes Bui in an email, saying that he believes the fire was caused by homeless people who were camping in that area of the property. “The fire got through the main electrical power to the building, and the whole building is out of service until further notice.”
The timing couldn’t have been much worse: Bui and his mother Lauren Huynh just opened Short Round on July 17, serving Vietnamese drinking snacks and a cocktail menu designed by bar-star Tommy Klus, at 3962 SE Hawthorne Blvd. On Facebook, Bui says eating and drinking at Short Round is currently the best way for customers to support Fish Sauce and its team.
Until further notice, the lights are off at Fish Sauce.
