Pastrami Zombie owner Melissa McMillan tells Eater she’s ready to open a Portland edition of her popular Ashland-based sandwich shop, Sammich. Thanks to Sammich, McMillan’s meaty sandwiches already had a following when she rolled into Portland to open the Pastrami Zombie food truck in June 2016. Sammich Portland will start serving Reubens and Chicago-style Italian beefs at 5029 SE Division, inside the forthcoming Scout Brewing taproom, with adjacent food cart pod.
“It’s going to be sicke [sic],” texts Pastrami Zombie’s Melissa McMillan, who either has or very nearly has obtained the title of Queen of Portland Pastrami. Pastrami Zombie is one of the hottest food trucks in Portland right now and only offers a pared down menu of Sammich’s offerings.
Speaking of Pastrami Zombie, McMillan tells Eater it’s on the move: Pastrami Zombie’s last day at 5429 NE 42nd Ave. will be Monday, August 14, and it’ll reopen on Wednesday, August 16, at the Mississippi Marketplace, at 4233 N Mississippi Ave.
“I am so appreciative of all my customers around Northeast 42nd,” says McMillan, “and grateful to all of the local businesses here for all the support they’ve given me.” Once relocated, the food truck will be open daily, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Hold onto your forks. Eater has reached out to Scout Brewing to see when the new taproom is expected to open, as the original, tentative date, August 1, has come and gone.
