It has been a busy year in Portland restaurant and bar break-ins, and the Portland police have apprehended two suspects alleged to have committed 15 armed robberies at bars, including the Sandy Hut and Jolly Roger Bar, KGW reports. The suspects are Deron A. Crain and Johntae D. Hammond, and they have each been charged with 13 counts of first-degree robbery and 14 counts of second-degree robbery.
A joint effort between Portland police detectives, the Special Emergency Reaction Team, and the East Metro SWAT team led to the arrest of Crain on Thursday, August 31, near Northeast 178th and Glisan Street. Hammond was already in custody in the Clark County Washington Jail, for violating parole related to an assault conviction, and will be extradited to Oregon, according to the O.
KGW first reported on the robbers in early June. In instances like the Jolly Roger Bar, the two men are alleged to have had a gun and a knife and demanded wallets and other goods from patrons, as well as stolen money from the cash register.
