Hey there, schmear and lox aficionados: a new location for Portland bagel-boilers Henry Higgins is in the works.
Sellwood-Moreland is to be the lucky recipient of the newest outlet for the upstart’s New York-style dough pucks, and it will take the space previously occupied by Feastworks Delicatessen, which closed just before Christmas after three and a half year.
The news comes via Feastworks owner Ashley Bisagna, who announced that the bakery was taking over the space in a farewell note for her sandwich-sausage-and-more spot on SE Tacoma.
“The buyers will rebrand the space with their existing business, Henry Higgins Bagels. Henry Higgins is an awesome, local bagel company that sells their boiled bagels along with house made schmears and bagel sandwiches. They will be a great addition to Sellwood.”
It’s not clear what form the new location will take, although given that Henry Higgins already has its bakery on NE 19th, it’s more likely to be a retail or cafe concept along the lines of the Henry Higgins that opened in FoPo in 2015.
Update: according to owner Leah Orndoff, the new location “will mirror our two current locations serving breakfast and lunch sandwiches.”
This will be the third location for what is arguably Portland’s premier bagel baker — Henry Higgins was founded in 2013 by Leah Orndoff, a former general manager for Kettleman Bagel Co, infamously taken off the map after national bagel name Einstein Bros. bought it out. Orndoff is backed up by head baker Dave Barile.
Expect it to open in early March.
