The Bend-based casual cider-makers at Avid (formerly known as Atlas) opened a Portland shop in the heart of the Pearl, Brewpublic reports. Avid’s new digs inhabit the bottom floor of the Pearl’s new Couch 9 apartment building, serving an array of ciders, rotating craft beer, and an assortment of pizzas, topped with everything from Brussels sprouts to cider-braised pork. The cider taproom will join new brewery outpost Backwoods and new-ish brewery revamp Von Ebert in the Pearl’s new wave of brew and cider pubs.
In general, the Pearl District is a beer haven, home to several other Bend satellites including 10 Barrel and Deschutes; however, its cider game has been lacking, with only the Cider Bite taproom off NW Hoyt. Avid’s six cider taps include the company’s longstanding ciders, made with organic apples, as well as seasonal flavors like dragonfruit and pineapple passionfruit. The cider appears in specialty cocktails, as well, pairing blackberry cider with local Aria gin and apricot cider with Bull Run bourbon. The cider taproom is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., according to its Facebook.
