Under-the-radar bagel cart Bundy’s Bagels is back on SE Hawthorne, Willamette Week reports. Joel Bundy’s five-year-old bagelmobile has long been a favorite of purists, but the cart shuttered in September because of the limitations of his cart’s kitchen. Seeing the news, Michael Madigan, owner of bagel behemoth Bowery Bagels, jumped in to offer his bagel production facility. Now, the bagel cart has returned, serving its traditional boiled bagels either slathered in cream cheese or loaded with sandwich accoutrement.
Bundy’s skips the wide variety of bagel styles in favor of the classics: plain, everything, sesame, and poppyseed, with that essential bubble-spotted exterior. Bundy is far more all-encompassing with his toppings: Schmears range from pesto to jalapeno lime, and the sandwiches arrive comically loaded with meats like pepperoni, pastrami, and roast beef. The cart officially reopened October 28 and is open daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.
