Treasured Italian restaurant a Cena is getting into the New York pizza game. Sunny’s Pizza, a new pizzeria from the team behind the Sellwood mainstay, will incorporate research from the family’s trips to Naples, San Francisco, New York, and Chicago to create a very specific style, with 18-inch whole pies and by-the-slice classics. The same team from a Cena will run Sunny’s, which is set to open November 7, assuming Friday’s inspections go smoothly.

Signs have gone up in a space just down the street from the original restaurant on SE 13th, which is currently finishing up its renovations. Old school pinball and slot machines add to its vintage-casual decor, with a sleek, pseudo-industrial bar. For now, the restaurant will stick to in-house pies and slices for dinner, but down the road, Sunny’s will offer lunch and delivery options.

A Cena has rocked the Italian staples in Sellwood for more than a decade, including its popular pizza Margherita that has since left the menu. The whole pizza operation is moving next door, using imported Italian flour, cheese, and tomato base. Guests will soon be able to try it themselves at 7738 SE 13th Avenue.
