Starting Friday December 7, the influential Wildwood space will be inhabited once again, when West opens at 4 p.m. Earlier this year, Portland Monthly’s Karen Brooks broke the news that a 40-seat restaurant and bar from the folks behind private event space Union/Pine would take over the location in Northwest Portland. Husband-wife team Lucian Prellwitz (Beast) and Morgan Deeks (Ned Ludd) will run the kitchen, working on dishes like wood-roasted beets with vadouvan brown butter and wood-grilled short rib frites, as well as a chocolate hazelnut torte, per Oregonian tradition. Covering the beverages is Brandon Josie, who helped open Palomar earlier this year before moving across the river. In the back, West will have an event space for cooking classes and dinners.
The restaurant will join a growing restaurant opening boom in Northwest Portland, between the newly open Bhuna and Hunnymilk. Looks like the perpetually hip neighborhood seesaw is shifting back to the west side of the river.
Update, December 5, 2018, 12:52 p.m.
This story has been updated to include the restaurant’s new opening date, as well as more information about the beverage program.
