Hey Love — the perennially summery cocktail bar and restaurant off East Burnside — will finally open tonight, the Portland Mercury reports. The bar has been building buzz as the home of tropical drink queen Emily Mistell, who spent years developing her reputation at popular Portland drink destinations and tiki bars.
Although the bar originally announced it would open October 12, Portland Mercury let it slip that Hey Love will actually open Thursday evening with a lowkey party in the space. The bar, filled with living plants and local art, will shake, blend, and stir warm-weather cocktails, with a spritz-on-steroids highball machine from Suntory.
As for the food, Hey Love hasn’t publicly released a menu, but the Mercury story hinted at dishes like macaroni and cheese pie and pork cheeks with salsa and coconut jus. The bar will open with just dinner service at first, before rolling out weekend brunches, weekday breakfast and lunch service, and happy hour as the month goes on.
In the newly developed expansion of the Jupiter Hotel, the cocktail spot comes from veteran bartender Mistell (Rum Club, Alibi) and Sophie Thomson (Bar Bar), along with Nicholas Musso and Aaron Hall, two co-owners of the hipster hangout Dig A Pony. The soundtrack from the ‘40s to the ‘80s will be cultivated by Hall, the former program director at music station Xray.
Though the bar’s adjunct cafe Hey Love Superette opened in July, the full bar has taken longer to get off the ground. The bar will eventually be open from 7 a.m. to 2 a.m. 365 days of the year, including holidays.
