SE Division’s restaurant scene will radically change next year, when N. Williams brunch favorite Tasty n Sons moves into the soon-to-close Woodsman Tavern. The Oregonian first reported that the Spanish-tinged restaurant, famous for its shared breakfast plates and long lines, will close its North Portland location at the end of the year, re-opening Tasty n Daughters shortly after in the Southeast restaurant space.
Aside from the location and the name, there won’t be too many changes—a press release from the restaurant group assured that fan favorite specials from both Tasty n Sons and Tasty n Alder would be on the menu, including fried chicken; hopefully that will assuage some of the pain of losing the Woodsman Tavern’s incredible version.
New dishes will be making an appearance, though, including some “surprises” from owners John and Renee Gorham’s recent trip to Istanbul. Pasta will also join the party, using a fancy Italian pasta extruder for house noodles.
Gorham attributed his decision to move to the North Williams neighborhood, which has dramatically changed since the restaurant first opened in 2010. “When we opened Tasty N Sons, I really was paying attention to the lifestyle on Williams, the bike riders, the walkers,” Gorham told the O. ”But the last three to four years, Williams just really turned in a different direction than the neighborhood that I fell in love with. We used to have great nighttime business, great bar business. Now Williams just gets quiet at 8 o’clock at night.” The restaurant is one of two losses on that street this year; Jenn Louis’s restaurant Ray closed earlier this fall, soon to be replaced by Earl Ninsom and Matt Vicedomini’s new Thai barbecue bar. Stay tuned to see if anything as exciting fills the Tasty N’ Sons space.
