Nationally celebrated chicken cart and recent James Beard semifinalist Nong’s Khao Man Gai plans to open its brick-and-mortar downtown April 1.
Earlier this year, Nong’s announced its new standing location on Instagram, with little information about the restaurant’s location or opening date. A closer look at the photo reveals the restaurant will open in the former Heart Pizza location on SW 13th, near Burnside.
Owner Nong Poonsukwattana gave Eater the details on the restaurant’s upcoming opening date, also saying that the cart on Alder should stay open “until they kick us out.” The chicken-and-rice truck has one other brick-and-mortar location, next to Marukin Ramen on Ankeny. If the menu at the new location is anything like its other brick-and-mortar, the spot should have a larger selection of rice dishes and cocktails, as opposed to just the flagship five: Poached chicken, rice, ginger sauce, broth, and garnishes.
Stay tuned for more updates on menu, location, and how many rice combos we can expect at brick and mortar #2.
