Restaurateurs Gail and Elizabeth Buchanan contacted Eater on Friday, March 2, with sad news that they officially closed breakfast spot The Big Egg on Wednesday, February 28. The co-owners sent a statement, which they also posted on their website:
After 9 years of business, we have decided to quietly put down our spatulas and hang up our aprons. We want to thank you all for your support over the years, it’s been wild! Be eggcellent to each other. Also, we are currently looking for a buyer for our restaurant space, if you are interested please contact us at shopsalepdx@gmail.com XOXO The Big Egg
The Big Egg was named one of the “16 Vital Breakfast in Portland,” for its dedication “... to quality ingredients and everything egg-y.” The Big Egg was a popular food cart in the Mississippi Marketplace before going brick and mortar in July 2015.
Another Portland breakfast eatery seems to have shuttered also, with reports that Southern-style restaurant Sweet Jam has closed down its Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. store. A quick call to the original location confirms, that it has indeed closed. No further details were given. The flagship Sweet Jam got cooking in 2016, at 8775 SW Canyon Lane, near Beaverton.
