Il Solito is rolling into the world of mimosas, though there isn’t one on the menu. Matt Sigler’s new trattoria in Hotel Vintage will begin brunch service 8 a.m. Saturday, serving an assortment of tricked out toasts, a borderline absurd breakfast sandwich, and a cocktail list wild enough for Portland diners.
In place of a traditional mimosa, Il Solito offers a trio of prosecco drinks, including an aperol spritz made with orange bitters, a play on a French 75 with rosé syrup and cocchi rosa, and a negroni sbagliato — a negroni with sparkling wine in place of gin. The amaro-happy menu also has a wide selection of heartier cocktails: an Italian sour made with montenegro, a Manhattan with ramazzotti and punt e mes, and a ‘Sicilian Sling’ with amaro nonino.
The food itself ranges from the reasonably light to the seriously hearty — For the mildly peckish, try a yogurt panna cotta with granola and fruit compote or a quinoa porridge with fruit, almonds, and apricot jam. Leveling up slightly, the restaurant offers a variety of toasts, from avocado with mama lil’s peppers and seeds to a chocolate hazelnut toast with bacon jam and banana. As for the traditional bacon and eggs, Il Solito’s scramble incorporates Dungeness and pea tendrils — add a side of brown sugar bacon for something heartier. Over breakfast food? Along with the restaurant’s breakfast sandwiches and brunch burger, the restaurant will serve a flatiron steak and a paglia e fieno, pasta with poached egg, pancetta, and english peas.
Il Solito will serve brunch from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, taking reservations for those looking to skip Portland’s ridiculous brunch lines. Take a look at the menu below:
