Canard Brunch Will Start Any Minute Now

Prepare for omelets and boozy milkshakes: It looks like Gabriel Rucker’s buzzy wine bar Canard will launch its full hours later this month, but it’s not clear exactly when. On an Instagram post of an oozy golden omelet, the caption reads, “T-7 days.” That post went live yesterday, May 14, which would make its opening day Sunday. But when user @kit_nero tried to clarify in a comment, the official account said the first brunch would be served from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. starting May 27. It’s possible the restaurant is trying to keep its morning opening slow to curb Portland’s inevitable brunch chaos — considering the restaurant’s almost daily crowds, the prospect seems particularly tough.

Sunlight-soaked and casual Canard opened next to Rucker’s restaurant Le Pigeon in April, making headlines for its uni Texas toast and foie gras dumplings. Originally, Rucker said he’d start serving food during the day in May; the Canard Instagram has also been loaded with some eye-popping breakfast shots, including Funfetti duck fat pancakes and a quinoa breakfast bowl with harissa and avocado. East Burnside eaters should keep an eye out for 11 a.m. lines, and feel free to shoot Eater PDX a note via the tip line.
