Old-school pepperoni parlor Pizza Jerk will open its second location on SE Morrison May 30, expanding outside the Cully neighborhood. Earlier this year, Portland Monthly reported that the OG Bunk Sandwiches would close, making room for Tommy Habetz’s new slice shop. Habetz previously said the new shop will have full pies, slices, and beer and wine, though the neighborhood is riddled with bars, from Dig A Pony to Creepy’s. Pizza Jerk 2 tentatively landed on a May 25 opening date earlier this month; in true Portland fashion, things are taking a little longer than expected.
Pizza Jerk originally opened on NE 42nd in 2015, the product of Connecticut-raised, Frank Pepe-loving, Bunk Sandwiches owner and pizzaiolo Habetz. It’s now become an institution in that neighborhood, known for its knockout pepperoni, rabe-studded pies, and its oh-so-East Coast clam pizza.
