Mystery solved: Popular Eugene taqueria Tacovore is moving to Beaumont-Wilshire. After mysterious sugar-skull signs advertising a nameless restaurant hit the windows of Fremont’s Fire & Stone, an Eater tipster sent us a neighborhood association post announcing the taqueria’s plans to open. The post says the shop will open “later in the year,” with no clear date.

Eugenians are likely aware of Tacovore, which has made a splash in that city’s Whiteaker neighborhood for its several vegan and vegetarian tacos — tempeh chorizo, crispy tofu, mushroom, etc. — as well as its “Old E” taco, an Americanized number with ground beef and Tillamook cheddar. The taco purists currently wincing will be happier with options like the smoked carnitas with orange and house crema or mole verde topped with local cotija. The Eugene location also makes a handful of tortas, loaded with carne asada or eggplant, as well as ceviche and, of course, margaritas. No word how much overlap the Portland location will have with its Southern sibling; the ownership team hasn’t responded to requests for comment just yet. Stay tuned for updates.
