In Portland, fourth of July means temporarily closed restaurants, big parties, and fireworks, of course. Still there’s a smattering of food news to catch up on. The highlights: New dumplings, a revamped menu at the Benson, and a...sort-of cafe?

DUMPLING DAY — For those waiting patiently for the return of Georgian khinkali (dumplings) and khachapuri (breads) to Portland, this is your week: Kargi Gogo, the highly anticipated Georgian restaurant soon to arrive on Alberta, is opening temporarily to try out a few things. The restaurant is not quite at full-blown open status, but from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, you can taste and see what the restaurant is working on. [EPDX]

HEART OF PALM — Palm Court, the restaurant at Portland’s historic Benson hotel, just got a menu revamp, throwing the restaurant into the stampede of new and revamped hotel restaurants hitting town. Menu highlights include braised short rib hash and and a ricotta avocado toast, to munch along with live jazz. [EPDX]

CAPITALIST COFFEE — Portland is about to get something called a Capital One Cafe, a coffee-shop-meets-shared-workspace to open across from Pioneer Square. It’ll have community meeting rooms, locally sourced pastries, and free wifi; we’ll have to see how a bank-sponsored coffee shop fares in a town teeming with cafes and anti-capitalists. [EPDX]
