It’s Feast weekend, which either means a whole lot to you or absolutely nothing at all, depending on whether you spent the cash to stand in line, inhale ridiculous bites of food, and schmooze with chefs. If you still want to do that, you can find some last-minute tickets here, but otherwise, these are the news nuggets to get you through your weekend. If you’re skipping Feast and need something to do, this list will help you out.
MO’ GYRO — Gyro Shack, the Idaho-based chain of pita sandwiches and salads, is opening its second Portland area location in East Vancouver this fall. But more importantly, the gyro chain is doing this thing where it hides painted rocks around Washington for people to redeem free sandwiches, which is so buck wild and random I support it. BYE BYE BRUNCH — Mere days before Expatriate broke hearts and ended its brunch, Bar Casa Vale announced similar plans to shut down its chicken and churro service. But not all hope is lost: Those folks will revisit morning meals in the spring. [EaterWire]
ROLLING OUT — Bundy’s Bagels, the cute little bagel cart on SE 33rd, will roll off into the sunset sometime soon. The cart plans to cut down its hours to weekend only this October, before “closing down for good at a later date.” [EaterWire]
LEVELING UP — It’s been a few months since Xico chef Kelly Myers had her stroke, but the chef is officially passing the whisk to her sous chef, Kelly Towner. But for those loyal to Myers, don’t worry; the recovering chef has only good things to say about her replacement. “Towner and I talk in a short hand style about food because it’s that easy with her,” Myers says, according to a press release. “We understand each other, and the fact that Xico is already serving her new dishes is a testament to her management skills.” [EaterWire]
