Inside the Super Stylish New Cocktail Bar in Portland’s Pearl District

Two Wrongs balances Northern African influences with cheeky design touches

The Pearl District gets a new cocktail lounge today, when the chic Two Wrongs opens on NW 13th. Originally billed as a Moroccan bar, Two Wrongs has transitioned away from its original plan, now serving tricked-out hotdogs and cupcakes, piña coladas, and fun cocktails. Although the Moroccan menu and cocktail influence has been left behind, the space still retains touches of Northern Africa in its aesthetic, from the teardrop-shaped light fixtures picked up in Marrakesh to the eye-catching patterned tile throughout the bar.

Golden light bathes the space, from a backlit logo — a hand in a peace sign, holding up two fingers — and its handmade brass light fixtures; still, the dark blues and teals keep the mood sultry. The building’s original brick plays off the intricate tile work under the bar and on the floor, which follows the long bar down to the back booth. A built-in DJ booth hints at lively weekends, further supported by a few cheeky design details — in particular, a portrait of Audrey Hepburn covered in tattoos.

The cocktail menu similarly balances elegance and playfulness. Many of the cocktails evoke images of college parties, with “Faderade” (vodka and blue Gatorade), cocktail pitchers, and slushies. Two Wrongs’ bar isn’t limited to frat-friendly drinking: The menu features sophisticated favorites like the Naked & Famous, a mezcal-aperol number with chartreuse, and The Mrs. Loomis, with Empress 1908 gin with lemon, lavender, and honey. For those unable to decide, there’s another option to leave it up to fate: During happy hour, visitors can “roll for a drink” using customized dice, with the possibility of winning top-shelf pours for the $8 price of a roll. Those who lose, however, end up with a well drink.

Two Wrongs opens at 4 p.m. November 29; the bar is located at 617 NW 13th Avenue. Readers can take a look inside the bar before it opens by scrolling below:
