The big-deal Portland pop-up of 2019 will get permanent digs in 2020. Mikkeller, the Danish brewery with locations around the globe, is committing to its current space at 701 East Burnside Street, building out the space before it opens in the late spring or early summer.
In June 2019, the team from Mikkeller partnered with Portland restaurant group Chefstable to open a pop-up in the former Burnside Brewing space. The team brought on chef Shaun King and bar manager Jamie King, who covered food and cocktails alongside the Mikkeller beer. From the get-go, Mikkeller’s pop-up was meant to be just that: It had a firm out at the end of the year, when they’d re-evaluate the idea of opening a real-deal brewery in Portland.
Turns out, Mikkeller is going all-in: When it reopens within that same space, Mikkeller will begin actually brewing beer in Portland, as opposed to serving beers brewed at other locations. The brewery space will also house an adjoining restaurant; that being said, Chefstable is tight-lipped on that side for now. The Mikkeller pop-up’s current culinary team will focus on opening their own restaurant in 2020. Stay tuned for more details on Mikkeller Portland next year.
